OBTAINING YOUR I.C.C. AUTHORITY FILING VIA THE INTERNET:

THE APPLICATION PROCESS STEP BY STEP

Several towing companies in our towing association have found the need to obtain their ICC-MC number; having obtained ours thru the internet, I have detailed the following list of instructions to enable those wishing to do so to have a guideline to follow.  There is also a list of the printed pages for each step available; you may contact the TRAK office during regular business hours to have these faxed or e-mailed to your company.

Obtaining your ICC-MC number has been simplified by utilizing the internet application process.  The application process can be completed in a short time, usually one-half hour, and requires one of four major credit cards to complete the form, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express.  Debit cards are also accepted, if they are tied to one of the above listed processing companies; most knowledgeable internet surfers recommend against using a debit card on any internet purchase.  The site has several encryption features that assure the security of your transaction.  The procedure is step-by-step in format, and reminds you to correct any errors or omissions before continuing to the next step of the application.

After logging onto the diy.dot.gov website, Click on the selection for applications processing, and you will find yourself at the application page.  Section I is the applicant's information page, requiring completion of most of the fields to continue.  You will need to provide your US-D.O.T. number at this page; if you do not have one, there is a selection you may choose to obtain that number.

Section II asks you to select the Type of Authority you are applying for.  Section III establishes your level of insurance.  Section IV details your Safety Certification.  Section V is for any past affiliations you have had with ICC, FHWA or OMCS, and Section VI and VII are for Household Goods Certification.  Section VIII is your certification of valid and correct information being submitted, and it will indicate the fee schedule for this application is $300.00.  If you have correctly completed all the required information, you will select "continue" at the bottom of this page.

This choice delivers you to the "electronic shopping cart" to purchase your authority.  The first page offered will ask you to complete billing and shipping information, just like you were ordering any other product on-line.  The next page is a summary of your order, and it should list your "Motor Carrier Authority" for $300.00.  Clicking the "Place Order" button introduces a security disclosure screen.  Finally, clicking on the "Continue" button moves you to the credit card information screen.  Enter your relevant credit card information, and submit.  The system then reminds you to print the page for your records; I remind you that any of the preceding pages can be printed, by selecting the "Print" button from your "File" menu. If you have questions, feel free to call the office.  The TRAK office phone is 502/743-5999 or the Burrows office may be reached by calling 502/743-5275.  SB
